Grape Seed Helps promoting circulation and a potent antioxidant .
Grapeseed Extract 30mg - 60 capsules
Grapes (Vitis vinifera) have been proclaimed for their medicinal and nutritional value for thousands of years. Unripe grapes were used to treat sore throats, and dried grapes (raisins) were used for constipation and thirst. Today, standardized extracts of grape seed may be used to treat a range of health problems related to free radical damage, including heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. The phytochemicals within grapes , especially oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes (OPCs) and catechins which accumulate principally in lignified portions of grape cluster are known to be powerful antioxidants. Round, ripe, sweet grapes were used to treat a range of health problems including cancer, cholera, smallpox, nausea, eye infections, and skin, kidney, and liver diseases.
Grape seed extracts are industrial derivatives from whole grape seeds that have a great concentration of vitamin E, flavonoids, linoleic acid and phenolic procyanidins. Recently, active compound B2G2 a kind of procyanidin gallate has been found to be an apoptopic agent in human prostate cancer cells.
A polyphenol contained in grape seeds is Resveratrol, which is under study for its possible effect on cancer cell growth, proliferation or apoptosis, among other potential chemo preventive mechanisms.
The potential benefits approved through research
There's strong evidence that grape seed extract is beneficial for a number of cardiovascular conditions.A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials concluded that "grape seed extract appears to significantly lower systolic blood pressure and heart rate, with no effect on lipid or C-reactive protein levels.
Grape seed extract has also been shown to protect against bacterial infections, such as Staphylococcus aureus. Some studies, mostly in animals, support these uses.
In chronic venous insufficiency, blood pools in the legs, causing pain, swelling, fatigue, and visible veins. A number of high quality studies have shown that OPCs from grape seed can reduce symptoms.
Grape seed extract also reduces swelling caused by injury and helps with eye disease related to diabetes.
For bone strength and to increase bone mineral density - according to research published in the Journal of Musculoskeletal & Neuronal Interactions; taking grape seed extract in food supplement has a beneficial effect on bone formation and bone strength for the treatment of bone debility caused by a low level of calcium.
Grape seed extract is also an aromatase inhibitor in vitro, i.e. it may suppress the conversion of testosterone to estradiol and thus acts as testosterone booster. Additional benefits include production of NO (nitric oxide) which increases blood flow due to widening of blood vessels.
Hepatoprotection and immune-modulation by inhibition of oxidative stress has also been an added beneficiary of Grape-seed extracts.
Although evidences are little convincing from research , grape seed extract may be beneficial for the following :
- Alzheimer disease
- Diabetes (improving blood sugar control)
- Improving night vision
- Protecting collagen and elastin in skin (anti-aging)
- Treating hemorrhoids
Doses of grape seed extract
Generally doses of between 100-300 milligrams/day have been used in studies although no firmly established dose of grape seed extract.
